Jai Ma! Live at Sri Ammani Retreat in Muir Beach, CA with Jacques Bourganel + our beloved sangha
What a gift to offer song in the temple of this Goddess!
Jai Ma is a traditional Indian chant celebrating the Divine Feminine, in her form as the Mother of All There Is. It translates to Victory or Salutations to the Great or Divine Mother, and like all original Sanskrit chants, it has numerous benefits encoded in its sound that soothe the singer and listeners’ nervous systems, and rekindle the fire of awakening.
Jai Ma!
Noticing that 24 hrs later we have 108 views. It’s the number of the Divine Feminine, and isn’t that just perfect? She has a sense of humor.
I grew up singing devotional kirtan and classical Ragas in temples in India. I love singing to the Divine in all forms. I can’t help it. I walk through my days in song.
This one is a favourite in particular, a bow to the Divine Mother- Jai Ma! My own derivative of an ancient chant to an appropriated tune by Adam Bauer. It comes around and comes anew I guess.
It’s a different story for another day, but I had made a wish to sing kirtan a few months ago. It was a pure wish, and when those arise, I know the Universe listens.
So, without effort or strife, the Universe opened a door- somehow with Divine Intervention, the Grace of the Mother, Sri Ammani and Jacques, my wish came true- amidst people I love, in a place I love, doing what I love. Could Life be any sweeter?
I was so excited to be asked to sing (could you tell?! :)
Sri Ammani said so sweetly, “You can bring the sound of India alive.”
She was testing me I know. She asked for the hardest version of Arunachala Shiva, without warning- we had abandoned hope of harmonizing it between us, let alone leading it with a crowd!
But the Mother knows my heart. It’s my favourite tune. I sing it to the mountains, the rivers, the grocery store- everywhere, and I so wanted to offer it into our Temple, to Divine Mother and Arunachala Shiva Himself, in sound.
Jacques will upload that recording later, but for now, here is the video of us all singing Jai Ma-
I hope you can feel the sound of my heartland, that the Himalayas and the Ganges came through. I feel them in my bones.
If you need a kirtan singer who will bring the sound of India alive, please keep me in mind and let me know.
I want to offer all my songs to God. And I am learning the harmonium too!
This was a humble beginning in a new phase of coming out of the closet…It’s so precious to be able to share Love and music in devotion with other devotees.
Thank you God!
More please, I say to the Bay!
Though I’ll go anywhere I’m called to sing to God.
🙏🔥🩷✨💃🏽🐣
