Dear One,
An old dream of mine came true recently- right as I close a chapter, a new one seems to be opening. I have been talking about this vision for years- an art gallery where I sell my art and that of dear friends, a travel treasures store, an art/design/architecture/design strategy studio, a healing space, a community gathering n workshop space and garden – ALL my favourite things converge in ONE place- Studio-ISH meets Come to Center. On the ground, in the real world. Just as we sell it, it turns out it was my house all along!
Read all about it on my substack here…
A celebration of life, light, color, and humaning!
I am anchoring the dream to have a real Life space in town for just this. Somewhere we can meet and rest and grow and enjoy being in it together…Which town? IDK- California, North Carolina…are you listening?
Made me bring out all the art from my closets- and hey, I am missing years of paintings- any of you remember who I gave my quarry paintings to? A gallery wants to show them, and I want them back!
It felt SO GOOD to sell art! A lesson in letting go on top of many this season. And, I actually loved receiving the money- somehow it feels like the most joyful exchange- when someone enjoys and loves what expresses my soul. Though admittedly, I priced some pieces to not sell easily. Because they punctuate something deeply precious, and personal. And it was sweet to see people enamored by process drawings, rough design sketches and wanting to buy “less finished pieces.
In the meantime though, I’ll be showing two pieces (one painting and a photograph) at the Carrboro Arts Center this December– A Light in the Dark. The show opens December 12, 6pm. So stay tuned and come. Cuz we all need to know there’s light beyond the darkest night, until of course, we know the Dark as Light as One. For more on that- find me for a chat!
It’s my joy to share beauty and the expansion of consciousness. So whether you need external or inner design- haha! Call me. I’d love to help you with that kitchen/bathroom re-design, make that house feel like a home, put an ADU in the back of the house- or make you a portrait, a sign or a logo, just right big piece of art for that one space, or a felt rug designed and delivered (like the one in the photos)…
And if you’re making art, or want to, or used to and don’t, maybe consider this a sign to pull out the drawing book for 15 mins (set a timer!), the camera for 20.
As my friend Miranda Aisling says, don’t try to make art, just make something! And I’m learning, the trick is that and like Nike said- to just do it.
